The Tigers Club Directors want a FSR for the perimeter block of 5.5 to 3 to 1 and up to 3.4 to 1 for the Club premises. They want to build 10 and 12 storey tower blocks of residential flats, as well as a new club, supermarket, retail shops, restaurants, gymnasium, parking for 520 cars and a pedestrian bridge over Victoria Road. A huge development in excess of 9,500 square metres of retail space. The Tigers Club Directors have threatened to close down if it does not get it's own way. Balmain White Bay Precinct Committee Members Michelle Hacking - John Stamolis - Christina Ritchie Picture below shows Balmain Rozelle residents VOTE to OPPOSE the Baileys White Bay proposal and for a moratorium on all future development approvals regarding the White Bay region until the new White Bay Master Plan has been finalised.
Balmain Rozelle locals by a show of hands vote to OPPOSE the Baileys Proposal The Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority and it's hidden agenda? The above meeting was to respond to Baileys Preferred Project Report received by SHFA on 9th July 2007. A resident recently stumbled on the Report in the SHFA website. The SHFA did NOT advise the community of the Report, nor did the SHFA advise our State MP Verity Firth, nor Leichhardt Council, nor the residents Balmain White Bay Precinct Committee. The State Govt Minister responsible for SHFA is Frank Sartor. |

What's proposed
- Where to lodge an objection |

The power boat refueling facilities would consist of bulk tanks
for storing 400,000 litres of fuel, namely 350,000 litres of diesel fuel and 50,000 litres of unleaded fuel,
with eight card-operated refueling dispensers and associated pipework.
Proposed to be constructed is an 11 metre high building 50 metres in length for bulk storage and a small number of offices
for commercial marine service businesses.
The facility will include (1) a roll on / roll off ramp for inter modal freight operations to service Sydney Harbour, with an associated lay down area for temporary storage of goods for water transport (2) a 75 tonne travel lift with associated construction of dual ramps adjacent to the ramp (3) grey water and sullage pump facilities (4) 30 car parking spaces, and (5) temporary vessel moorings. NOTE: This is intended to be a major marine refueling and supply point for commercial vessels to collect pre-ordered supplies in the building and construction industry.
Health and safety risks of sabotage or accidents are a genuine worry of close by residents given the quantity of marine fuel that will be situated near residential homes. The wrong "bottle-neck" location: The proposed site at Wharf 6 White Bay is just 250 metres accross the harbour from Pyrmont Park. Imagine the bottleneck on a Sunday afternoon in summer with all those power boats waiting to refuel. It would clog up the harbour entrance to White Bay, Rozelle Bay and Blackwattle (Fish Markets). It would limit the opportunities to bring the ferries into this region. And it would severely increase the risks of power boat accidents. Not in the public interest: This magnificant harbour location should be set aside for public transport access (ferries, water taxis, etc) and not predominately for a few thousand wealthy owners of private power boats. The inner Sydney Harbour is a major tourist attraction. Sydney attracts $5 billion p.a. in tourism dollars. Why put a power boat refuelling depot right in the middle of it? An obvious Terrorist target? It does not make sense to have a large-scale concentration of marine fuel stored and dispensed to hundreds of boats situated nearby and almost directly opposite the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Water Police headquarters. The world media is focused on Sydney Harbour New Year's Eve fire-works display and celebrations and there are tens of thousands of people on land and in boats around this immediate location. Surely it would be better to have such maritime refueling facilities in smaller but more numerous locations away from the immediate city centre and the Harbour Bridge. For this reason alone, the NSW and Federal Government should insist that this is the wrong location for a 400,000 litre marine fuel depot. More heavy trucks on local streets caused by heavily laden FUEL TANKER trucks in the local streets delivering fuel and other large trucks with building and other supplies to and from the site. |

A new Master Plan is required before any more piecemeal development is proposed or approved for the White Bay, Glebe Island, Rozelle Bay, Blackwattle Bay and adjoining NSW State Government controlled land in the region. Click here to view concepts for a new White Bay Master Plan Public Transport a better option: The new Master plan should incorporate a highly efficient public transport system including a regional bus terminal, harbour ferries, light rail, bike and walking tracks around the foreshore to the city. Lost potential in Tourism: Sydney is the primary entry point for tourists into Australia - a high income earner for NSW economy. The White Bay location is close to Harbour Bridge and other major tourist attractions. A large-scale marine fuel depot is highly inappropriate in this location. Lost potential for jobs in the locality
from clean light maritime, hi-tech digital age industries, and cultural and recreational activities aimed at tourists, visitors and
local communities.
Poor use of harbourside land setting a precedent for other disruptive heavy industries. |
